Surviving Political Stress

At QTB, we recognize that queer identity is inherently politicized in our society and that the personal is political.

We offer a supportive and understanding space to process and cope with distress related to political news, events, and challenges from a place of community and solidarity.

Let’s be real—existing in a world that systematically challenges our identities can be exhausting. At QTB, we know that survival isn’t just about persistence; it’s about resilience, care, and finding ways to thrive even in the midst of political upheaval.

Many of us live at the intersection of identities that capitalism, systemic oppression, and political hostility continuously target. Whether you’re queer, trans, fat, neurodivergent, disabled/chronically ill, kinky, poly, ENM, BIPOC, or holding multiple marginalized identities, the weight of political discourse and lived injustice can take its toll.

The personal is political, but we also deserve moments of rest, joy, and collective support.

Navigating Political Awareness Without Burning Out

Engage strategically: Finding the balance of being tuned in & aware vs. prioritizing personal wellbeing and boundaries. Curate your media intake to prioritize what keeps you informed without overwhelming your mental health.

Community care over individual burden: You are not alone. We’ll offer support in finding spaces—virtual or physical—where solidarity helps carry the emotional weight.

Liberation health framework: Political stress is not just ideological; it has real mental and physical effects. A trauma-informed approach helps us recognize our responses, validate our experiences, and create coping strategies that work for us.

Coping Skills for Political Distress

  • Channel frustration into action: Advocacy, mutual aid, and resistance can be powerful forms of catharsis.

  • Rest is resistance: Your worth is not measured by productivity or activism burnout. Prioritize radical self-care.

  • Find balance: Staying informed and politically engaged is important, but so is preservation. Set boundaries, carve out time for joy, and allow space for healing.

No matter how tumultuous the political climate gets, you are valued, seen, and supported. Survival under capitalism requires community, care, and the rejection of isolation. Together, we cultivate resilience—on our own terms, in our own ways.
